Our Health Services Administrator/RN manages and evaluates all facility health service activities based on company, contractual and healthcare policies and procedures, goals, and objectives. Implements all contractually required healthcare services. Manages department budget and seeks to improve the operational efficiencies of the facility's health service program. This position uses the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the provision of comprehensive care for sexually violent predators. In addition, this position functions as a liaison between facility staff, contracting agency, and compliance agencies on healthcare-related matters.
Education for Health Services Administrator:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or Health Care Administration, or related degree or certification from an accredited school.
Experience for Health Services Administrator:
- Previous healthcare management or supervisory experience.
- Experience as a nurse supervisor/manager or charge nurse is desirable.
- Experience in healthcare planning, budgeting and meeting contractual obligations preferred.
- Experience in a secure residential facility a plus.
- Ability to treat staff and residents in a consistent manner following company policies and procedures.
- Above average verbal and written skills.
- Must be able to disseminate verbal instructions or training clearly and in a manner that is understood by the intended audience.
- Must be able to write memorandums and reports in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
- Working knowledge of program objectives, policies, correctional healthcare laws and standards desirable.
Licenses/Certifications for Health Services Administrator:
- Current and active Registered Nurse License in the State of South Carolina, or eligibility through reciprocity, preferred.
ResponsibilitiesProvides overall leadership and administrative supervision to the facility's healthcare operations including Medical, Psychiatry, and Nursing services.Works in unison with facility and corporate management to ensure the healthcare needs of the facility are consistently being met and are in compliance with company's contractual and healthcare policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.Maintains effective working relationships with security, psychiatry, clinical, medical and nursing staff, contracted providers, and outside provider agencies.Ensures compliance with the policies and procedures of the company.Utilizes established policies and procedures in making decisions, but also uses sound independent judgment performing the duties of the position.Directs the work of healthcare employees and contract providers. This includes being involved in the selection, hiring, evaluating performance, employee training, promoting, and disciplinary action including termination.Ensures adequate staffing to meet the healthcare needs of the residents.In the event of a staffing shortage, accepts 24/7 on-call status to resolve staffing issues and assure appropriate coverage for the provision of healthcare services. Develops therapeutic relationship, including demonstrating thorough knowledge and therapeutic intervention skills and provides comprehensive nursing care services, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of identified healthcare needs.Ensures proper nursing services procedures are followed and demonstrates thorough knowledge of all applicable nursing services and related policy and procedures, including adequate knowledge of regulatory standards as related to the position, and proper utilization of medical equipment.Demonstrates thorough understanding of all requirements, practice standards and regulatory requirements relating to the administration of medications; SVP policy and procedures; documentation requirements; lab tests and phlebotomy; and medication management education.Is sensitive to cultural diversity issues, treats patients as individuals, and considers the culture of the patients when providing care and treatment.Is knowledgeable about care and treatment needs of patients of different ages. Provides individualized care and treatment that is consistent with/sensitive to the age and life span developmental needs of each patient.Ability to quickly triage routine patient complaints and determine need and priority to see physician.Monitors and takes appropriate action as needed on operational issues including overtime, issuing appropriate forms, auditing medical files, requesting records, ensuring residents with serious health problems receive necessary intervention and treatment, ensuring compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws and physical safety requirements.Completes and submits regular operational reports.Responds to all inquiries and requests for information.Identifies financial responsibilities for all incurred expenses.Develops, reviews and modifies departmental policies and procedures annually.Evaluates and recommends methods of improving operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.May be involved in obtaining outside bids for ancillary healthcare services.Maintains and fosters effective external relationships with outside hospitals or medical providers.Utilizes data to analyze, modify and evaluate health care delivery systems at TCCC.May attend outside educational seminars as needed.Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.Perform other duties as assigned.
